No one can make you feel blue without your consent.

Blue Monday?!  In Essaouira Morocco where we were over Christmas in the New Year blue is a good colour, blue is everywhere in Essaouira. It’s seen as a positive colour and reputed to ward off evil spirits.

In the English language blue is an odd word, we talk of ‘feeling blue’, We talk of a blue moon which has different explanations.   You can also be ‘true blue’ (wearing the colours of the covenanters).

I wonder if this blue Monday is another ploy to divert our minds elsewhere? According the Telegraph today we should lift our spirits by eating pastry based creations and then become even more ‘blue (or depressed) when we get on the scales I assume?

The bottom line is however only you can make the decision to be ‘blue’ or depressed and we sometimes do this unwittingly, we give our power to be over to other people.  The only person that can make you feel good is you. You are response-able. Able to respond, the only person who takes full responsibility for you is you.

A tip when all around you appear to be acting a little strange – imagine yourself inside a huge Plexiglas bubble.  Information can get in, but it will stop outside the bubble and bounce away.  In this bubble you can walk and communicate with others, but nothing that is irritating can reach you.  You can add music, appropriate warmth or colour to the bubble.

Can you see that bubble now? Can you feel it surrounding you, protecting you? What pleasant sounds can you hear in there? Will you need to turn some sounds down that are outside? Notice how the bubble protects you and how you can function well inside there. Give yourself a hug.  Give yourself a pat on the back.  And get on with life.
